Prepositions: Week 9
Prepositions are function words that connect nouns, pronouns, and phrases to other words in a sentence. The word or phrase being introduced by the preposition is called the object. The main task of the preposition is to specify the spatial, temporal, or logical relationship of the object to the rest of the sentence.
Examples of prepositions in the English language include above, at, before, below, in, on, past, since, till, and with.
This time we are not going to provide a list of prepositions for you to look up in your dictionary. This is because prepositions are very language specific. Instead we encourage you to learn about the words that act as prepositions in the language you chose to study.
Also, some languages do not have prepositions. In this case, the function of prepositions is carried out by different grammatical structures.
