Tips on Learning a Language More Quickly

You can help yourself learn a particular language much faster. Although studying a language generally takes a good amount of time and patience, you can still do something to pick up the pace, so to speak.

In addition to taking up a language course, here are a few things you can do to learn your chosen language more quickly.

Dedicate Time for Learning

In your daily schedule, choose a free time where you can focus on studying the language. One to two hours is an ideal amount of time. Here, you can review what you have learned during your session with your language teacher, or do the tasks he or she might have for you. You can practice reading and writing text in that language. Remember to be relaxed and well rested before spending time on these activities.

Learn a Number of Words Per Day

Learning a number of words everyday increases your vocabulary of the language you are learning. Five to seven words is recommended. However, if you feel you can learn more words, you can target ten to twelve words per day. Use the new words in several sentences or phrases in that language. Eventually, you would be able to understand and speak a larger amount of sentences and phrases.

Practice Speaking the Language

If at all possible, find a friend whose native language is the one you are studying. Talk to that friend in his or her language. Find a specific topic such as your activities for the day or your favorite hobbies. Carefully listen to how your friend speaks and pronounces the words, and how he or she answers your questions. Remember to keep your conversations as enjoyable for your friend as it is for you.

If you do not know anyone who speaks the language, you can find one on the Internet. There are a lot of online tools that can help you find someone who speaks the language you want to master.

Look for Materials in that Language

If you, for instance, are studying Chinese, you can purchase or rent Chinese movies, or watch Chinese TV shows. Try to find movies or shows that have subtitles in your native language. You can also listen to songs containing Chinese lyrics. This is a good alternative if you do not have anyone with whom you can practice speaking the language. Apart from being entertaining, these activities help you speed up the process of learning the language.
