Which is the Easiest Language?
We discussed in one of our previous blog posts that in choosing a language to learn, difficulty level is one major factor to consider. When you are studying a language for the first time, you may choose a language based on how easy it is.
Since there are numerous languages out there, you may ask Which is the easiest language to learn?”. In this post, we have a number of ways to answer this question.
The Majority’s Opinion
Many people around the world believe that English is the easiest language to learn. The first reason is that English has an alphabet which is identical to that of most major languages. English has only a few letters that are different from those of other languages. These letters, however, are very easy to learn and remember. Apart from this, English has a relatively fewer letters compared to other languages.
Another reason is that English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. This results in a huge amount of resources for learning English. Almost all language learning programs have a specific service for learning English. There are plenty of books, magazines, movies, and online sites that are all in this language. In a matter of minutes, you should be able to find enough resources to learn English.
In terms of vocabulary, English also has many similarities with other major languages. There are many words in the English language that were taken from other languages and vice versa. Especially at this age of globalization, more and more languages borrow words from English.
Your Native Language May Hold the Answer
The easiest language to learn may be one that is closely related to your native language. This is because the alphabet system of your native language and that of a closely related language may be very similar to one another. In this case, you would not have to learn a totally different alphabet, thus making your task much easier.
The pronunciation of words and specific tones may also be the same. So, you do not have to worry a lot about words and phrases you might pronounce incorrectly. In addition, there may be words in the two languages that have the same spelling and meaning. This gives you the ability to learn and use a larger number of new words everyday.
You can visit your library or surf the Internet to do a quick research on the languages that are related to your native language. These may be ones that were derived from your native language or ones where your language was taken from. Usually, the countries that are near your motherland have languages that may be related to your own.
But what's the real answer?
In reality, there isn't such a thing as the easiest langugage. You can determine which language is the easiest for you, most likely it will be the one you are the most motivated to learn. But languages cannot be ranked by difficulty.
