For Teachers

Welcome to Find A Language Teacher. If you are reading this page, most likely you are a teacher looking for students. Let's see what we can do about it.

On this site, you can create a profile to advertise your teaching services to students. We will do the legwork to get the students to find you. Currently, there are thousands of students browsing the teacher database every day.

Before registering

Before you register yourself as a language teacher, feel free to look around the site, see how other teachers filled in their profiles, read some of the blog and forum posts. The only thing you won't be allowed to do is contacting other members before registering. This is mainly because of saving registered members from getting spam messages.

The registration process

When you have decided to register, click on create an account.

We will only ask you for minimal information. The goal is not to collect personal data from you, rather, to get you started on advertising your teaching services as soon as possible.

On the registration screen, first enter your user name, this is how site members will get to know you. Unless we will have a specific reason in the future, we will not collect your personal name, we don't need it, share it with us if you would like to.

Second, choose a password that you would like to use to access the account. The password is secure, nobody will have access to it, not even the site administrators. If you forget your password, you can reset it from the login screen.

The last thing you need to select on the registration page is if you want to register as a student or as a teacher. Most of the site content is available to both students and teachers, the only difference is that teachers will be able to enter information about themselves so that students can find them. We will not ask for any further information from students. If you register as a teacher, you will have access to everything a student can access.

Once you are done with the registration, you are ready to contact other members, or to fill in your profile information.

Right after the registration, you will be presented with an option to create your profile. If you choose not to create your profile at this time, you will see this link when you go to your account options until you fill in the requested information. After that, you will be able to change any of the information on your user account page.

Changing your account options after registration

At any time you can click on "My Account" where you will see your user settings. If you click on "Edit, you can change your email address and your password. Also, you can upload a small picture of yourself which will appear when users view your profile, but it is optional. On this page you can set your time zone as well.

One setting that is important under account options is if you would like to stop users from contacting you. By default, members are able to contact you, as obviously you want to be found. If for any reason temporarily you don't want to receive communication, you can uncheck the "Personal Contact Form" option. Please be sure to remember checking it again when you want users to contact you again.

Filling out your profile

After you are registered, it is highly recommended to fill out your profile so that students will be able to find you.

From anywhere on the page, click on "My Account", then click "Profile". Here you can provide the following information:

First provide your location. For security and privacy reasons, we are not collecting and displaying personal addresses. The information we need is only necessary to find out where you provide your services. Fill in the country and city fields, if you are from the United States or Canada, please select your state and province.

Select all languages you teach, the maximum you can select is ten.

Select all languages you speak, while it might be the same languages you teach, but if you speak any other languages on some level, select it so that people can contact you on that language as well.

Select how you would like to teach: In person, online, or over the phone. You can select any or all of these options.

Finally, provide a narrative of your experience. Here you can write as little or as much as you would like, practically there is no limit to the amount you can post. We are not asking for an actual resume or curriculum vitae, because we want to give you the option to decide what kind of information you would like to share about yourself.

Some information that maybe useful to share:

  • Your education
  • Work experience
  • Your prices
  • Your publications
  • Your personal web site
  • Social media where people can find you: Twitter, Facebook, etc.

We highly recommend that you do not provide any personal contact information here. While we will allow you to do so, please be aware that this information is publicly available on the internet, and only provide information where you would like to receive communication at any time.

How can members contact each other?

All registered members are able to contact any other members. Most of the contacts are resulting from a teacher search, but not only language teachers can be contacted.

In order for anybody to contact you, they need to be logged in. This is a security measure we are enforcing in order to minimize spam, and unwanted contacts. When students click on your user name either from the search results or from any other area of the site, such as blog comments, forum posts, etc., they will see your profile. From the profile the can click "Contact" when they are presented with a contact form.

There are two fields to fill in, a subject and a message field. When a user clicks the send button, you will automatically get an email from the user who contacted you.

This email is your first personal communication with the user. You can directly reply to this message and write back to the user who contacted you. From now on, the communication is between the two of you, and you can exchange more contact information.

For easy identification, all contacts that you receive from this site has (Find A Language Teacher) in its subject line.

How can you make your membership a rewarding experience

Students can now contact you to use your teaching services. In theory, you can sit back and wait for the initial contact.

However, we are providing you with lot's of resources to increase the chance of being found among many language teachers.

Primarily, this site is an information resource for language students. They come here to read blog posts, reviews, and discuss anything they have a question about.

You, as a language teacher can expose your knowledge by joining the conversation. If you add value to the site, you will soon be discovered as somebody of high competency.

One of the easiest ways to get started is to comment on blog posts. Add something valuable to it, and in return, we will link your comment to your profile.

Another way of being exposed is to join the discussion on the forums. You can answer questions, join the conversation, or start new topics.

And of course, you can directly contact people. As it is a social community, people expect to be contacted and are here to join conversations, find or advertise teaching services. However, we do not have any tolerance for inappropriate, abusive or spam communication. When such communication will be brought to our attention, it will result into an account suspension.

What are we doing to bring students to the site?

We will make all efforts to expose your services to students.

We will continuously provide useful and interesting information to language students. While the original purpose of this site is to help students find teachers, we would like to go beyond that. We want to make this site the best choice for students when it comes to obtaining information about languages, and language learning.

How can you help?

We encourage language teachers to share their expertise with students. If you are interested in adding to our resources, or posting on the blog, please contact us for further information.

It is free!

For the first one thousand teachers, subscription is absolutely free, and they will never be charged for anything that they signed up for originally. After the first 1000 teachers we will start charging for the services.

The reason for giving away 1000 free subscriptions is because we would like to ensure that the site has a healthy traffic before charging for services. When payment will be collected, we would like to be sure that you are getting the exposure worth your money. For now, enjoy the site, and help us bring the traffic to it, and suggest any improvements you can think of.
